Maria is Hebrew for “Wished for Child”
Maria also came with light in her wake.
She learned to read
with her eyes shut.
She
gained a taste for the finer delicacies in life
by absconding with mushrooms at
age three in the produce aisle.
Not mushrooms--but just add a white crown and a little bulge! |
It was
in that very produce aisle that we met the Spanish teacher who invited us to enroll
a sister (and then Maria) into a six year Spanish immersion experience.
Maria has a soft spot for animals,
children
and older people.
Happy to step up as
Nanny “Maria” (who speaks English, too!)
or drive a lawn mower on acres of meadow land
or drive a lawn mower on acres of meadow land
to make a “hollow” happier--whipping away weeds
or other annoyances to engineer a way into grandparents’ and other hearts,
or other annoyances to engineer a way into grandparents’ and other hearts,
Maria may be a pioneer
in a "trail less traveled by" in her
education,
(to study, or to study more, or study what, will ever be the question)
and doing it with a smile.
(Maybe Maria would like to be this kind of engineer--one who gets to ride!) |
Maria is a devoted sister,
friend,
daughter, |
(Ask us later how to fold those overales, Maria!) |
and granddaughter.
What would we do without Maria?

I love the pictures! It is fun to see how Maria has, ever since she was small, had those cute little half-moon eyes when she smiles, and now she still has them :)
